Hello!
Some of you know that I have spent most of my career as a hospital-based feeding therapist. I started in acute care in 1993 (yikes!) and eventually moved into an outpatient setting where I work on a feeding team, offer feeding therapy and conduct swallow studies.
Sandwiched between my hospital-based jobs, I spent five years working as an early intervention feeding therapist in Salt Lake City, Utah. That experience gave me an entirely new perspective on Pediatric Feeding Disorders.
Early intervention allowed me to step into the homes of families who were struggling with feeding and truly see what was happening in their everyday lives. I saw firsthand how feeding challenges affect family routines, mealtimes, siblings, caregivers, and the countless other demands that families were already managing. More importantly, I was able to provide intervention in a very different way.
After five years, I returned to the hospital setting. But I came back with an entirely new understanding of feeding therapy. That experience continues to influence how I think about Pediatric Feeding Disorders today.
I am so excited to have the opportunity to come back to Utah to speak at the 2026 Pediatric Feeding conference: Beyond the Bite! I will be sharing case studies from the framework of the four domains. There is a fantastic line up of speakers. Please join us in September!
