Please help us understand how feeding therapists use oral motor exams in practice – I am working with Dr. Scarborough and Jessica on this project and we want to better understand how therapists were trained (or not trained) to perform an oral motor exam, your comfort level with performing an exam, and when you feel it is useful and when you might defer the exam. My name is Jessica Arthur, and I am a second year SLP graduate student at Miami University (OH). I am completing a thesis project under the direction of Dr. Donna Scarborough, on oral motor exams in infant/pediatric feeding and swallowing. Participation in the study will contribute to a greater understanding of how oral motor exams are utilized across disciplines in pediatric feeding and swallowing assessments, which may inform future clinical guidelines and improve treatment quality.
