The Benefits of Pre-assessment Feeding Questions

A few years ago, our feeding team implemented a questionnaire to be given to caregivers at check in. It consisted of 6 questions honing in on the Caregiver’s concerns, past interventions, a sensitively worded question about food insecurity, as well as a daily intake recall and tube feeding schedule if applicable.  See here for the short Keep Reading >>

Lactose Intolerance

Lactose is the sugar found in milk. Lactose intolerance is when the small intestine does not make enough of the enzyme lactase needed to break down the lactose so it can be used for energy. If it is not properly broken down, it becomes food for the bacteria living in the large intestine or colon. That can cause gas, pain, bloating, nausea and diarrhea.
