Hello Blog Readers and Feeding Experts,
I hope everyone had a joyous holiday season and feels the potential of a new year ahead. First, I want to say thank you for following my blog and hanging in their with me during my doctoral training when I contributed very sporadically to this blog to say the least. Now that I am finished, I am looking forward to having more time to treat kids, write, research, teach, connect with other therapists, and contribute useful content here to help our kids and their families in 2025! Here are some updates I would like to share-
Feeding Matters– I am so excited to present my dissertation research on gagging in children with PFD at the Feeding Matters Conference in Phoenix (February 21-22, 2025). It looks like a fantastic conference! Learn more and register here: https://www.feedingmatters.org/conference/
UNC Innovative Grant – In July 2024, My colleague from the UNC TEACCH Autism program and I were awarded a grant to develop a joint clinic for children with pediatric feeding disorders and autism. We wrote the grant because of the increase in children with ASD we are seeing in the feeding clinic. We are midway through this grant and have learned so much together. We are about to start the research portion of the grant and will keep you posted.
Adjunct Teaching– Many of you know that I adjunct at several Universities (UNC-Chapel Hill, Yeshiva University, and UNC-Greensboro) where I teach a master’s level class on pediatric feeding and swallowing for the speech pathology students. This past year, I asked the students to pick a topic and make a handout with easy to understand definitions, current resources, and references that were shared with the class. All of my students did a fantastic job on this assignment, so good I would like to share some of the handouts for you to use or modify and use. So with their permission, I will share some of the handouts here on the blog.
Professional Teaching – I am continuing to offer my CAN-EAT Approach © (https://www.motivationsceu.com/product-page/306-can-eat-approach-using-medical-motor-behavioral-strategies) and SIPS© classes (https://www.motivationsceu.com/product-page/7302sipswallowinginpediatrics) through Motivations and also privately (just email me for info). I will be offering these course with Greek translation this year.
Consulting– My new venture for 2025 is to offer professional and family consulting. I am excited to be able to offer this. When I was a new therapist back in 1993…… I worked closely with a feeding team and it shaped my career and gave me the skills and confidence to work in this field. This early training is where I fell in love with team work in pediatric feeding and was committed to starting a team at UNC. I hope to work closely with clinicians or a groups of clinicians on specific strategies and also coach families directly.
Thanks again for your support! I am committed to keeping my blog ad free and appreciate all that shopped in the amazon store here that help to pay for blog fees. Please let me know of any topics you would like more info on!
Happy feeding, Krisi (email me at feedingnewsletter@gmail.com)
